Introduction

The Diploma of Community Services is a targeted program aimed at improving the competencies of professionals in this sector, equipping them with advanced abilities in areas such as program coordination, case management, and business development. 

This qualification is tailored to meet industry requirements, featuring elective courses that enable students to acquire a well-rounded skill set in high-demand areas, including counseling, support for individuals impacted by domestic and family violence, assistance for clients with mental health challenges, and client advocacy. 

Course Description

This qualification reflects the roles of community services, case management and social housing workers involved in the managing, coordinating and/or delivering of person-centered services to individuals, groups and communities. 

At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously under broad directions from senior management. Workers are usually providing direct support to individuals or groups of individuals. Workers may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers and/or case management, program coordination or the development of new business opportunities. 

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 200 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. 

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Entry Requirement

There are no pre-requisites or any other training package entry requirements for this course. However, it is strongly advised that individuals complete lower-level qualifications and/or acquire industry experience prior to enrolling in the course. 

AICE has in place admission criteria for courses in its scope as required by its ‘Application and Enrolment Procedure for VET Courses’ to ensure that international students meet industry requirements.  

 

International students must; 

  • Be at least 18 years of age and have completed Year 12 studies or equivalent;
  • Have IELTS* score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old) with no lower than 5.5 band in each component. English competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of the following: 
  • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
  • Completed at least 6 months of a Certificate IV Level course in an Australian education provider.
  • Students are expected to have an Australian Core Skill Framework (ACSF) score at level 3. An online LLN Test will be conducted using LLN Robot prior to the course commencement (Link will be provided during the orientation session). 
  • It is also essential for the student to possess basic computer skills. 

 

* Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 6.0. 

Additional Requirements For Work Placement
  • A satisfactory National Police Clearance / Australian Federal Police Clearance Certificate (AFP) / NCC will be required for all practical placements.

Students enrolled in this course must complete a mandatory work placement of 240 hours. Note: AICE staff will be able to arrange the work placement with our preferred work placement facilities.
