CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability)

Introduction

Do you wish to pursue your career in providing care to those with a disability? AICEs Certificate III in Individual Support provides students with the skills needed to enter a career in the disability support sector in ageing, community care and home care settings. A career in disability support is both challenging and rewarding, at AICE, where we assist students from point of enrolling through to completion by delivering hands-on training by our industry-expert trainers, and they prepare you for work in your new career.

In this course, you’ll learn how to implement client-centered care that focuses on the importance of empowerment in the care process. Life with a disability can be challenging, and support workers play an important role in the quality of life of thousands of Australians each day.

By combining the Ageing and Disability specializations, graduates of this program are equipped to provide specialized care to clients with disability in roles from aged care AINs and personal care attendants, to disability support workers providing care to clients of all ages.

Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability, or some other reason. These individuals take responsibility for their own outputs within the scope of their job role and delegation. Workers have a range of factual, technical, and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards, and industry codes of practice.

These workers:

  • Carry out activities to maintain personal care and/or other activities of living for people in an aged care or disability support setting;
  • Carry out activities in accordance with individualised plan; and
  • Report directly to a supervisor and are not responsible for other workers.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Entry Requirement

There are no pre-requisites or any other training package entry requirements for this course. However, it is strongly advised that individuals complete lower-level qualifications and/or acquire industry experience prior to enrolling in the course.

AICE has in place admission criteria for courses in its scope as required by its ‘Application and Enrolment Procedure for VET Courses’ to ensure that candidates meet industry requirements.

  • Applicants are required to be 18 years old and above
  • Applicants are required to have successfully completed an ACSF test and demonstrate competence as working at Level 3 for all indicators
  • It is also essential for the student to possess basic computer skills.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged to apply.

Additional Requirements For Work Placement
  • A satisfactory National Police Clearance / Australian Federal Police Clearance Certificate (AFP) / NCC will be required for all practical placements.

Overall Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility For Funded Courses WA funded places are available only to permanent residents and holders of select visa subclasses.

Non-residents must pay full fee for service. You are eligible for a training place if you have left school and are:

  • an Australian citizen; or a permanent visa holder; or
  • holders of a sub-class 300, 309, 444, 445, 461, 785, 790, or 820 visa;
  • secondary holders of a temporary visa of subclass 188, 457, 482, 489, 491 or 494 visa;
  • holders of a Bridging Visa E (subclasses 050 and 051) where the visa holder has made a valid application for a visa of subclass 785 or 790.
  • Ukraine citizens who are holders of a visa subclass 449 or 786;
  • Afghan citizens who are holders of a visa subclass 449; and
  • bridging visa holders not subject to condition 8101 who are eligible to work, and who have made a valid application for a subclass 866;
  • must be at least 15 years old; If you are under 18 years of age, you must have a Department of Education (DoE) Notice of Arrangement For proof of eligibility you will need to provide prior to the commencement of training, evidence of citizenship or residency.

Evidence could include:

  • an Australian birth certificate; or
  • a current Australian passport; or
  • a current New Zealand passport; or
  • a Naturalisation certificate; or
  • a green Medicare card.
Eligibility Criteria for Funding

Fee Free

Students who enrol in the FEE FREE Program on or before 31 December 2025 are eligible for the fee-free arrangement annually for the entire duration of the course.

First Nations people, young people, people out of work or receiving income support, unpaid carers, people with disability, and women facing economic insecurity are particularly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity for fee free training.

Eligibility Criteria Participation Work Readiness

To be eligible for the program, students must be unemployed or under-employed and able to access mainstream training. Students must:

  • Have a written referral from a Participation Referral Agent for Job Seekers, or
  • Be referred by themselves; another agency or recruited by the Service Provider.

Under employed is an individual working less than 20 hours a week with one or across multiple employers.

Note: Participation Referral Agents are only those organisations listed on the Participation Referral Agent List published on http://www.dtwd.wa.gov.au/vet-jswa at the time of recruitment.

Eligibility Criteria for Concession

Eligibility criteria apply for concession and non-concession enrolments and accordance with the VET Fees and Charges Policy 2025. The students who hold the following may be entitled to the concession rate on course fees. You must present this to the RTO administrator at time of enrolment.

  • Persons and dependants of persons holding:
    • a Pensioner Concession Card;
    • a Repatriation Health Benefits Card issued by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs; or
    • a Health Care Card.
  • Persons and dependants of persons in receipt of services from the following Commonwealth support or employment services programs:
    • Workforce Australia; or
    • Parents Next.
  • Persons and dependants of persons in receipt of AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY.
  • Persons and dependants of persons in receipt of the Youth Allowance.
  • Persons and dependants of persons who are inmates of a custodial institution.
  • Secondary school-aged persons, not enrolled at school.

Note: This only applies for the Priority Industry Training (PIT), not Work Readiness – Fee Free or Work Readiness – Priority Industry Qualification (Lower Fees Local Skills).
