Overview

This course is for those who possess Certificate III in individual support (Ageing) and wish to achieve the Certificate III in individual support (Disability)

You get the credit transfer for 7 core units and 1 elective unit and you will have to complete the 5 elective units online.

You have to complete 40 hours of work placement as well.

This qualification requires successful completion of 12 units of competency consisting of 7 core units and 6 elective units. The elective units have been selected based on industry best practice, industry requirements and the specialisation and work outcome, therefore, an additional six (6) elective units have been included requiring completion of 13 units in total.

To achieve this qualification, students must have completed at least 40 hours of direct support work in a facility providing disability support services. This will be arranged by the team at AICE as part of the program.

  • CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services – Credit Transfer for those who already possess Cert III Individual Support (Ageing)
  • CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically – Credit Transfer for those who already possess Cert III Individual Support (Ageing)
  •  HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems – Credit Transfer for those who already possess Cert III Individual Support (Ageing)

Delivery Method and Duration

This course is delivered through a face to face model consisting of:

  • Online learning and completion of theory assessments online
  • Mandatory work placement & assessment at least 40 hours of direct support work for a disabled person.
  • Post-work placement revision and de-brief, one (1) day after the completion of the work placement hours.

This qualification is typically completed over 4-8 weeks, however, the actual duration will be dependent on the students:

  • Existing skills and knowledge
  • Industry experience
  • Existing qualifications/certificates 
  • Language, literacy and numeracy requirements
  • Work placement schedule and attendance

Entry/Eligibility Requirements

Prior to entry/commencement students must participate in a pre-course meeting and undertake an online language, literacy and numeracy assessment. 

Students must: 

 
  • Possess sufficient English language, literacy and numeracy skills which includes being able to accurately read and interpret workplace documents such as care plans, safety policies and procedures including safety signs, dangerous goods classifications and prepare written reports.
  • Provide photo ID
  • Provide a USI
  • Provide the statement of attainment of Certificate III in individual support (Ageing) which outlines the units you are competent

Prior to undertaking practical placement, you will be required to provide a:

  • National Police Clearance
  • Working With Children Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check

Training and Assessment Requirements

Students are required to:

  • Complete 100% of the course. Students who miss the course, or part of it, are responsible for arranging to cover what was missed, in their own time.
  • Be physically able to perform the tasks required of direct care including manual tasks.
  • Wear comfortable appropriate clothing to classes including enclosed footwear for practical training (work placement may require you to wear a uniform)

Assessment evidence can be gathered from a variety of sources and will include some or all of the following:

  • Recognition of Prior Learning and/or credit transfer
  • Summative and formative assignments
  • Written reports and/or portfolio assessments
  • Scenarios and/or case studies
  • Written/oral questions
  • Workplace observation assessments

Work Placement

Please note that placements are full-time or part-time, unpaid and rostered according to standard industry shifts.

Study and Career Pathways

Study
On successful completion of the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) participants may progress to the CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support.

Career
If you are not already employed in the health care sector, our parent company, St Jude’s may be able to assist with possible employment opportunities.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Currency Competency (RCC)

You may apply to have formal study and / or skills and knowledge assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) / Recognition of Current Competency (RCC). Students are provided the opportunity for RPL during the pre-course meeting.

Certification

On successful completion of this course students will receive a nationally recognised qualification for CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability).
